Our Story

When you least expect it, life changes.  I was juggling life as a mum to two young daughters and a career as a lawyer, when I noticed a lump in my armpit.   I had breast cancer and chemotherapy, a mastectomy, radiotherapy and the removal of my ovaries followed.

Twelve months later,  I emerged into the  sunshine and planned my escape to our island bolt hole to swim in the sea, try to recover my body and mind and piece back the life I had before.

I went on the hunt for swimwear with the comfort, support, and functionality I needed for a body that had changed.  I wanted swimwear which both looked and felt good and which would help me feel like me once more.  The specialist post-surgery pieces I tried felt dated and seemed to shout "mastectomy".    The brands I had once turned to didn't offer what I needed.

Once in France, I swum each day, trying out different swimwear solutions -  the idea for Émerje was born.  Soft, supportive, timeless swimwear thoughtfully designed to be inclusive for the 1 in 7 of us who go through breast cancer treatment.  All our pieces feature:

  • soft, supportive fabrics – feel secure
  • soft molded cups – smooth & mask asymmetry & provide shape. Sewn in so they don't budge.
  • discrete pockets - give the option to wear a prosthesis or bra pad
  • different coverage preferences
  • UV 50+ protection
  • no underwiring or scratchy seams & labels – soft on sensitive skin
